I can finally share some fun news! Splitcoast Stampers asked me to do a coloring tutorial for their website! I was so excited! I thought I would not be able to keep a secret until time to post, but I kept my lips sealed! I decided I to do a little tutorial on coloring transparent balloons. I have done this technique in many of my classes, and everyone always seem to enjoy it.

For the tutorial, I used the much smaller stamp, to keep the video short. You would use the same exact technique to color the larger image. Here are a few photos of transparent balloons. Well, Here I am with my two entries for the Butterflies and Blooms challenge. I don't know why but I seem to always say flutters and butters when trying to say flowers and butterflies. lol... I am not really a mixed media gal, but am trying to break out of my comfy zone, because I find that the cards I make go into a shoe box and stay there. Things like this, I can set out and share with others or give as gifts.

When I saw Ken's challenge project I was totally inspired and remembered some old frames I had in the garage in the "someday projects box". Here is Ken's Project.

Check out Ken's tutorial here

I started out by trimming a piece of Canson watercolor paper to fit the frames. In the first photo I used the Hibiscus stamp drawn by Dina Kowal, it's available through Impression Obsession. I just love this stamp, it looks like it was drawn with a thin black marker. For the second and third projects, I then used

Stampendous Duo stencils and pen to trace my flowers onto the watercolor paper. These Duos are so cool because they come with two stencils that you can layer or use separately and also have a awesome pen. You can find them in your local scrapbook store!

Now using a paint brush paint your image as desired. I wanted a bright strong finished project to look tropical. So I used strong mixtures and layed the "paint" on thick. If you want a more pastel looking finished project, you can use more water and less colorburst or ink. To add the textured background, I first painted using Turquoise Colorburst, then I dropped water onto the background and dabbed it up with a dry papertowel. It diluted areas to make a textured watery background. Here are the finished projects.
1. Stamped image and colored them using Copics on one card and Tombow markers on the other. You pick how you want to color yours (you can even use your colorburst as watercolor, but i didn't have any the right colors).
2. On quality watercolor paper, I sprinkled just a bit three colors of Colorburst. Spritzed with water and swished around with a paint brush. LET DRY or use heat gun to speed it up.
3. Dropped a few drops of water onto the dry background and let set for a few mintues before lifting with papertowel.
4. Stamp greeting using versamark and white embossing powder. Heat with heat gun.
5. Sprinkle a bit of Stampendous Chunky white embossing powder onto the card randomly and heat from below.
6. Assemble card using Scrapbook adhesives mounting squares.
7. Glue onto cardstock and card is ready to add a greeting inside and mail to a friend.
WOW! Have you seen the new ocean stamps by Stampendous! I am over the top thrilled with them. Not to mention the embossing powder technique that I am addicted to for the background. Fran showed it to me at CHA and I have just been itching to try it a million times (and have done it a million times). It's is so fun! Check out the short video here on how to get this coolest look! These two sets each come with matching die cuts so you won't have to fussy cut if you don't want to! Toot Toot!

Ok... so here are the step outs. First I used a hot plate that I had hanging around taking up room in my kitchen cabinet. You might find a pancake griddle at Goodwill or thrift store that will work great! For easy clean up cut a small piece of your craft mat to lay on top. My little circle one does not have room for a mat.

First lay your chipboard on hotplate and sprinkle with embossing powders.

Second add a bit of clear embossing powder over your sand to use as glue to hold on the Fragments I used for my sandy ocean floor. Use any color you wish, I prefer the rose or taupe. If the Fragments don't stick, sprinkle on a bit more clear embossing powder.

Here is a quick video to show the steps. It is so fun, you will be glad you tried it! Have fun and please share your project with me!
Hello Everyone,

Here is a fun image that I colored for the January 2016 Stampendous Catalog.

This one gives a lot of practice on "flicking" If you have taken any of my classes, you all know that I refer to an airplane doing a touchdown. When a plane barely lands then lifts back up. That's the motion you want to do when flicking your Copic brush. Do not sit your brush down onto the paper before flicking. You want to gradually touch the paper while flicking or twisting your wrist, and continue your flick as you gradually lift off the paper. This is kinda hard to explain unless you see it in motion. Therefore, I just pulled out my camera and did a quick little video below.

I really wanted some fresh air so I pulled my camera out onto the patio and recorded out there.. (sorry about the background noise - seems all the dogs, planes and neighbors decided it was nice to be out also!).

The colors used here are:
Purples:V01, V12, V15, V09 or RV02, V12, V15, V09
Greens: YG03, YG63, YG67
Mouse: W1, W3, W5, E00, E11, E000 and R20 for a bit of cheeks.
Stamp available through Stampendous or your local Stamp store: Thistle Nap #HMR57

Give it a try, if you have a question, please ask. Looking forward to seeing your comments on what you thought of this card.
I like this simple card. The image is called Birthday Toad and is available HERE or at your local stamp store! He comes in red rubber wood mounted or cling mount. The best part is the greeting is attached! I actually cut the greeting off and now have two stamps that can be used together or separate! I love the flexibility of using cling red rubber stamps because I can customize them like this.

He is a great little guy to have on hand for any masculine birthday coming up. I have more men than women in my life and it seems that I never have enough masculine cards in stock. I need to make up a few extras of this little guy.

This actual card is done using copics. However I have done it in watercolors which turns out just as cute (and quicker to do).

If you like to give him a try here are the colors I used.
COPICS - Browns: E 37, E35, Greens:YG67, YG63, YG17, YG03, YG01, Blue: B02, Red: R29, Gray base is W1, W3, E31.

Watercolor: Tim Holtz distress markers or ink. Vintage Photo, walnut stain, Peeled paint, candied apple,

Hope you enjoy and give it a try.

Colorful hugs,

Here is a fun card I made for the Stampendous Catalog! I totally enjoy doing "secret" coloring that I can't share until the catalog comes out. I get my sneek peek early and always have something new to color! Thanks Stampendous for including me!

Little Mudpie here is blowing out the candle on his cheese cake.. ha ha ha... could not resist the chance to say that! It's more like a cheese stack. I hve seen this image colored a million different ways, but this is the way I chose to color it.

I used copics and think he turned out darling. Hope you like him.

Reds; R20, R22, R24, R27, R29, R59
Cheese and crackers: dark to light: YR24, YR23, YR21, Y32, YR31.
Base. Warm grays W1, W3
Mudpies fur: E35, E33, E30,
Mudpie skin: E000, E00, E11, and a bit of 20 for his cheeks.
I used a 3/4" hole punch to cut the holes. I didn't have a shade darker cardstock to layer under the cheese piece, so I colored it with YR24. It worked great! (I only colored the areas under each hole).

Stamp is by House Mouse-Designs and available through Stampendous or your local stamp store. Gouda Item number HMR39. Available in red rubber wood mount or cling mount.

Hi, I hope you will join me at The Stamp Addict for this educational and fun Copic coloring class. We will be making three fun cards. The fun techniques we will be doing are skin, hair and transparent balloons. Note this is an Intermediate class and does require some prior practice of blending alcohol markers. All images are by Stampendous!

Bring your own markers. Note these are suggested colors! You may bring your favorite combination of colors to use, however we will have no class markers. If you need to pick up a few new colors please give Roxanne a call at The Stamp Addict and she will make sure you have some before class. 619-667-5060

Here are my suggested colors:

Step 1 - Stamp images with Stayzon and cut with matching dies or fussy cut each leaf.

Step 2 - Sponge ink onto each leaf using dabbers or make up removing sponges (dollar store). Peeled paint, scattered straw, festive berries

Step 3 - Sponge Walnut Stain ink onto the edges of each leaf.

Step 4 - Lay on two damp baby wipes (or damp papertowel). then gently scrunch it up.

Step 5 - Unroll the leaf and spray with any giltter spray that you have. I didn't think that the pink would work, but it did fine. Of course I would have rather used clear - but we need to be resourceful with what we already own!

Step 6 - using random background stamps lightly stamp a background with antique linen ink.

Step 7 - Sprinkle chunky embossing enamel onto vanilla cardstock. Then heat from underneath with heat gun until melted.

Crimp a piece of kraft cardstock (great recycle of paper grocery bags). assemble card.

This Weeks' House Mouse Challenge theme is in the kitchen.... well my laundry is just outside my kitchen so this works for me! Laundry is NOT my favorite chore, but I do LOVE denim. When my son was small, he owned every pair of Osh Gosh overalls and jeans that they made along with several Guess and levi brand outfits... I love him in denim.

The denim was colored with my favorite denim color. B91, B93, B95 and B97 or B99. I added a bit of texture by dampening a piece of corderoy fabric with 90% alcohol and then dabbing the image after it was colored and shaded. It dilutes the ink and leaves a great texture. Then of course the cute little mice are colored with Copics as well. Brown mice are E30, E33, E35, Gray mice are W1, W3 and W5. Face, feet and tail are done with E00, E11 and R20 for the cheeks.

Give the challenge a go. Although the theme is in the kitchen you can always add an anything goes theme to their challenge! Win free goodies!

Colorful Hugs,
Hello Everyone,

Today is time to play another House Mouse Designs Challenge. Here is a fun image that I love. The theme of this challenge is dots... well I am considering my seeds dots as well as my black paper has white dots.. so this is fitting!. LOL.... Coloring the rind was fun, I wanted to have those dark green stripes so I wet the white area with blender pen then added the light green (YG13, YG03). The wet area allowed the light green ink to bleed into the area that was wet with blender soultion making it look lit it was fading into the white part of the rind. I did the same with the dark green. I made sure the light green area was very wet before adding the dark green allowing the two to blend together a bit for a gradual blend. I like how it turned out. The reds were easy peasy as I love to color with reds. I used R20, R24, R29, and R59. The seeds are even better if you leave a bit of white area for that shinny highlight. They always look better if the area is left white rather than adding a white gel pen on top of the black.
Hello,

Well here is week two and three of my free Copic Coloring class series. I hope that you enjoyed week one and all posted your coloring worksheets or samples on our Facebook Forum. We learn from each other so it's always best to share even when we are not super pleased with the outcome of our work. I can guarantee one thing in coloring....... That is you will not get better without practice, trial and error!

So Here we with a new lesson. This week we will work on breaking down images into separate individual shapes, so that we can properly shade them. Let's jump in with our video of the week.
Ok that sums it up for my first free online class series. I will post more based on how successful this one is! I hope you enjoy the classes and give me feedback on what you liked most. Again, these classes were first done for PAID classes so the format is a bit different from what the videos may say.
Hello,

I have taught many on line courses over the years and have decided to give a few to you for free. The difference is that I cannot send you kits for the classes. You can try to print the images that I provide here (when possible) or you can use similar stamps that you already own. I will also not have a forum where I guarantee free critiquing of your images. I will however have a private Facebook page where you can post your finished projects for comments with other classmates. I will pop in here and there for a few comments.

First Video just explains a few basics and explains the materials that you will need.
Ok. That's it for week one. Your homework is to practice coloring images with layers such as these butterflies. If you can't print the above blank sheet use a rubber stamp or digital image that you already own.

NOTE: The cute butterfly that I used in the video was purchased from Crafters Companion. I looked today on their website and could not find it... maybe it is out of stock. Hmmmm. You can use any butterfly or dragonfly with layered wings.
Hello Everyone!

I just wanted to share a few spring cards that I have made using House Mouse-Designs. I really love this image as it reminds me of myself. I want to color everything! Flower: I started with my lightest color then slowly added my darker colors on top, using less of each color as I got darker. The image looks much more vibrant in person (lol). Hope you enjoy my card as much as I do.

Flower: r24m YR04, Y15
green: YG03, YG63, YG67 (note that I put the darker colors in the deeper areas that get less sun)
mouse: w1, w3, w5, w7
skin: E00, E11, R20 for cheeks.
ground: various browns: E00, E33, E35 and W3
sky: B000 and BG00
butterflies: Martha Stewart punch

colorful Hugs,
Jennie
We will be playing with painting images using stamps and stencils from Stampendous! All you need to bring is a small (ie: #4 round) paint brush and a detail pen like a pigma or Copic black marker... even a permanent black extra fine Sharpie will work.

Here are the projects we will be working on...

This one here is the bonus project of the week.... (I didn't advertise it until tonight).
I did a pastel colored one (hard for me), and a brighter version. I thought that those who wanted could add a lake and mountain background, and others can do the simple background. Both will be loads of fun. All are stamped with Stazon ink then colored with distress inks from a paint palette. The Watermelon is our freehand project for the month. See you there I hope... Call Stores for more information!
